Max Barthélémy Ahouèkè was appointed as Benin’s Minister of Communication and Information and Communication Technologies in May 2011. Born in Savalou, Ahouèkè was a member of the Paris Bar and worked as a legal advisor to the head of state. Having also been a council member of the transitional authority for media regulation, he is familiar with the issues faced by the Ministry of Communication and Information and Communication Technologies.
According to his predecessor Goundé Désiré Adadja, Mr Ahouèkè is made for the job of leading the Ministry of Communication towards a prosperous future. He is an industrious, ambitious man who is open to dialogue and enjoys rising to a challenge. Ahouèkè is also known for his ability to harness resources to make a success of any kind of assignment.
Ahouèkè is of the view that communication is a cross-functional sector which knows no barriers. He is committed to building on and finishing the work of his predecessor, which includes the modernisation of Bénin Télécoms SA, the transition to digital technology by 2015, the reforms undertaken in the GSM sector and the E-Benin project which aims to make Benin the digital district of Africa.
